“Hardships often prepare ordinary people for an extraordinary destiny.”
– C. S. Lewis
There are things that we have control of in our lives and many other things we can’t control. Usually the impactful circumstances in our lives occur out of the blue and it’s almost as if we never even had a choice in the matter. However, the things we can control are our reactions to these issues that come by surprise.
Each day is filled with small choices which ultimately define your character. From the time you rise till the time you sleep, statistics tell us that during a day you will make up to 70 000 decisions. That’s a terrifying figure, especially if you’re an individual that hates to make bad decisions. All these choices are yours to make and ultimately create a ripple effect in your life resulting in the circumstances you thought you had no effect on.
Don’t fear when good vibes and the Lord are near! Your immediate assistance in all these choices comes through the divine, omnipresent Holy Spirit of God that we are so blessed to call upon for assistance. As humans, we naturally make decisions for the benefit of our bodies/ flesh. Fortunately through prayer, reading God’s Word and living in Jesus footsteps, we are able to call on the Spirit of God to assist us in all of these 70 000 decisions daily. This is the same Spirit that allowed Jesus to heal the sick, drive out evil and raise the dead. It’s the same spirit that Moses used to part the Red Sea and save God’s people. It’s the same Spirit that was used to resurrect Jesus after his traumatic death and ascend Him to heaven.
“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.”
Romans 8:1-4 NIV
