Repeated trauma requires you to create a system of defenses that protects you, and these protections were so important. They saved your life; they protected your real self.
A traumatic experience stems from any event in life that provokes a threat to our safety and potentially positions our lives or the lives of others in a place of risk. As a result, a person encounters high levels of emotional, psychological, and physical distress that temporarily disrupts their ability to function normally in daily life.
Expectedly, a person will have intense emotional or physical reactions following a lamentable event. On most occasions though, these reactions subside as a part of the body’s natural healing and recovery process. There are many things you can do to help cope with and recuperate from such an experience.
For me, I remember groping around in the dark, unable to find a solution. Every place I had turned to simply led me to disappointment or destruction. It’s as if I was caught in a snare of despair, waiting in pain and misery for the inevitable slaughter.
However, I felt a hand on my shoulder and the Word of God shone His light on me. I was rescued by the words of affirmation written in the Holy Book. God was sending me messages through material, people and whispers in my thoughts. He was indicating that the slaughter I had believed to be my fate, was indeed, a mirage designed by the evil one.
And you will know the Truth, and the Truth will set you free. (John 8:32)
Once the false lenses over my eyes began disintegrating, I started seeing the bright truth shining through. There was no discouragement or condemnation in what I was learning. I began this journey of understanding my “spirit man” through a revival that would eventually eradicate my “physical man”. (Romans 8:1)
“In the same way that nursing infants cry for milk, you must intensely crave the pure spiritual milk of God’s Word. For this “milk” will cause you to grow into maturity, fully nourished and strong for life.”
